Road Trip 09

What a great weekend! My mom, sister and best friend all took a road trip this past weekend to Galveston to see my niece and nephew. They have been gone all summer with their other set of grandparents down in South Texas. We have been missing them like crazy so we thought it would be a great idea to go get them and stay in Galveston for the weekend.

We arrived on Friday and went to Kemah Boardwalk. It was so much fun! We were all very tired so we grabbed some dinner at Joes Crab Shack, which was out on the water (very cool!) and then rode some rides.

Then we woke up on Saturday and made our way over to Schlitterbahn. I haven't been to a waterpark since I was in my early teens. It was everything I remembered and more. We had so much fun especially on the lazy river. This lazy river wasn't like your normal lazy river either, it had huge waves that ran through it. We all tried holding on to each others tubes so that we could stay together but soon found out that didn't turn out the way we would have liked. Re-Re ended up losing us and ended up going around that thing 3 more times before we spotted her and helped her out. It was so fun!

That evening we went back to our hotel rested and cooled off and headed out for dinner. We went to a place called Fish Tales right on the Seawall in Galveston. We were able to get a table on the deck over the ocean. It was so breezy and the food was amazing.

This is a funny story below. On Friday while we were driving we passed this farm that had one donkey. We pulled over while Jenny used the phone and Lesley, Me and my mom were trying to call him over to the fence. Before we knew it he was running as fast as he could to us by the fence. He was talking so loud to us. We fell in love with him and if we had been in a truck we might have just brought him home with us. Who knew donkeys were so sweet..??

Just one of those days......

Today definitely feels like a Monday to me. Have you ever had one of those days where you feel like it's 2:30 in the afternoon then when you look at the clock it only says 9:30am. Ahhhh....that's exactly the kind of day I'm having. I kind of feel like this poor cat in the cage.

It's the kind of day where I could sit down and probably finish half of these off!! Ha! Don't these look great, I've never seen rainbow assorted donuts quite like these before.

I guess things could be worse, right??

Recipe Blog-Hop....

Death by Chocolate

Super Easy and Yummy.....
  • 2 boxes of Choclate Jello Instant Pudding Mix
  • Family Size Box of Brownie Mix
  • Container of Cool Whip
  • 2 Butterfinger Bars

Cook brownie mix exactly how it states on the box. While baking the brownies prepare the pudding mix exactly how it states on the box. Let brownies cool and cut into squares.

Then have a glass bowl or dish and line the bottom with half of the cut brownies. Then spread the pudding mixture on top. Then put the rest of the brownies on top of the pudding mixture and add another layer of pudding on top. Then spread the cool whip on top of it all. In a baggie you will crush the butterfinger into small pieces and sprinkle it all on top of the cool whip.

Voila, you have a wonderful dessert!

Revealing Truth

I am mad at God. Am I really writing that? I mean, am I allowed to feel like that? Well for a while now I have been mad at God. I have let it get me down and it has not made me a pleasant person to be around. My wife Kristen knows me so well that she has known that there was something bothering me for a while now. But every time she would ask me what was wrong, I would answer, "nothing."

I'll be honest, I felt ashamed to tell my wife that I was mad at God. It's not something to be proud of, but after talking to her she made me realize that it's ok to be mad at God. She brought to my attention that I had only been going through half the battle. I was being mad at God, but I was not praising him and thanking him for making me go through this trial. She brought to light what I should have been doing all along. So, yes it was ok for me to be mad at God, but I should have been on my knees thanking him for my wife, our health, our families and for his love, mercy and grace.

So while I do not know or have the understanding of why I am going through this trial, I must trust God that it is for my own good and he will reveal his purpose when I am ready.

Thank you babe for helping me redirect my attention to what truly matters! God shows me everyday what a gift you are to me! I love you!

Thought

We all sometimes get stressed out by what is happening in our lives and in our surroundings. In the past I used to get upset and try to come up with a solution myself. That never worked out very well. Now, anytime I feel stress, anxiety, anger, worry, etc, trying to overcome me, I simply ask God for an answer, guidance or patience. Although not every request is answered at the time, it will be when we are ready. Nothing can come between the love that God has for us! That in itself is an amazing statement. Nothing can come between God's love and me! I am so thankful that Kristen and I have turned our lives over to God and are embraced by his love everyday. We pray that we are able to be in his likeness and show people love and compassion like God showed us. Thank you God for being patient with me while I figured out through trials that I needed to seek truth in you!

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)

Things We Are Doing This Weekend

Independence Day is upon us and that only means one thing, no, no, not Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. Although, those guys are ridiculous for doing that! I mean seriously, 59 hot dogs in 10 minutes!! That's crazy! No, this weekend we are having friends over for grilling, swimming and sand volleyball!! So far we have heard that the weather will cooperate and it will be a warm 99 degrees! It should be a lot of fun and we are really looking forward to it.

I hope we don't have to be out there at the crack of dawn to claim the spot we want at the pool, but if we do then we'll take shifts being out there until everyone shows up. We are excited because we are going to do the traditional Hot Dogs and Brett is hooking it up with Smoked Sausages from Amarillo. I'm excited to try the Green Chile one. Sounds interesting.

On July 3, 1996 I remember going to the opening of Independence Day. You know, that one movie that has nothing to do with Independence Day. I never understood that. I mean, ok, Will Smith was in that movie and so was that guy from Jurassic Park, Jeff Goldblum, and Randy Quaid was funny, but what does an Alien Invasion have anything to do with the adoption of the Declaration of Independence? I mean they should have called it Aliens Attack on 4th of July or something. Either way I catch myself watching that movie when it comes on so I guess the title didn't matter.

We hope that our get together will become a sort of tradition for 4th of July. I mean, aside from celebrating our Independence from Britain, 4th of July is all about cook-outs and being at the pool or the lake and hanging out with family and friends. This being our first 4th of July as a married couple will be special for us. We are excited about watching fireworks on Saturday eveningat the lake. There's nothing like huge explosions going off to music to symbolize our freedom!! Last year we went to Austin and watched fireworks downtown and celebrated by eating lots of great food! This year will be no different!! I only wish that fireworks were not banned in our city limits so we could go buy some to set off on 4th of July!

So have a great Independence Day and be safe and don't try to light 30 sparklers all at once in your hand, it won't make one big sparkler. It will burn your left hand and make your fingers look weird for like three weeks. Trust me.

"Oh Canada"

Happy Canada Day everyone! Here are some interesting facts about Canada Day:
  1. 10 villages in Ontario were flooded on Canada Day in 1958 for the St Lawrence Seaway. The villages are now known as the lost villages. (I wonder if that's where Oceanic 815 is??)
  2. "O Canada" became the official national anthem of Canada on Canada Day in 1980.
  3. Cross-country television transmission by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation began on Canada Day in 1958.
  4. The year 2009 marks the 142nd celebration of Canada Day, which commemorates the day that Canada became a nation.
  5. On October 27, 1982, July 1st which was known as "Dominion Day" became "Canada Day".
  6. Color Television was first introduced to Canada on Canada Day in 1967.

Some things I know are in Canada:

  • Toronto Blue Jays
  • Olympic Stadium
  • Canadian Dollars
  • Manitoba (It's a funny name)
  • Vancouver
  • Cold Weather

And that is all the interesting facts I was able to come up with about Canada Day. In a few days it will be Independence Day. There are a lot more interesting facts about that so stay tuned. So to our neighbors to the north, have an Oh Happy Day Ay!!
